The Removal of calculus

Scaling is a procedure to remove the calculus from teeth surface, either with ultrasonic scaler device or manually by hand instruments. If there is some tiny calculus remained on root surface after ultrasonic scaling, hand scaling with Gracey's curette might be necessary to make sure the root surface is smooth. It is important to do scaling at least once a year, or sometime every 6 months to prevent accumulation of calculus, especially sub-gingival calculus that more harmful to the tooth.
Someone might worried about scaling, thought that it will be painful. Yes, it may cause some pain if your teeth already suffered moderate to advanced stage of Periodontitis, but the process of scaling is pleasant and comfortable if the amount of calculus is minimum!
