A 16 years old girl presented to our clinic with severe anterior crowding, labially erupted upper & lower canines, which impact her smile. Her dental arch seems developed and posterior teeth are in good relationship. She requested to correct her severe crowding and improve her smile.
Problems list
(as shown in photo):
1. Severe Crowding
2. Unpleasant smile
Treatment objective
1. Relief the crowding
2. Maintain facial profile
3. Level & align teeth
4. Improve smile
Total treatment time for her was 23 months, all first premolars was extracted one month before bonding the brackets. The purpose of extraction is to maintain her facial profile, because she have severe anterior crowding on a developed dental arch. The canines drift to the extraction site very quickly after bonding of brackets. Fixed retainer was bonded on anterior teeth to maintain its position till fully re-calcification of bone, and overlay clear retainer fro night time wearing. 2 year follow up review shown the new occlusion is stable.
Materials and Method
Damon Q braces, a passive self ligating (PSL)system was used for this patient, because this brackets system can easily expand the dental arch to create space to resolve the crowding. Damon Q also known as the best passive self ligation (PSL) system in the market, due to its ability to expand the dental arch physiologically, therefore reduce the orthodontic extraction needs in many cases.
